Artistic Technique
Artistic Technique
Artists use a wide variety of materials and techniques in their quest to create their images and tell stories, whether that is a sculpture, a painting, a poem, a movie, a performance, a line of computer code, a digital image or a musical piece. In the world of painting, there are many methods of media and material used to create art.
The Gouache Technique
An artist will mix material into watercolor media to create various opacity. The additives can be a gum substance or simply white pigment. Gouache coloring creates a continuous layer over the paper’s surface which can generate nice reflections. Using different brushes and differing thickness of the watercolor can also lend itself to a ‘mild impasto’ (thick) quality when the artist chooses to go that way.
