    Artistic Technnique

Artists use a wide variety of materials and techniques in their quest to create their images and tell stories, whether that is a sculpture, a painting, a poem, a movie, a performance, a line of computer code, a digital image or a musical piece. In the world of painting, there are many methods of media and material used to create art.

    The Impasto Technique

This method dates back to the later 1400’s and the Venetian Renaissance in Italy. Impasto is Italian for “paste.” Impasto is the application of paint in thick globs, daubs, smudges, smears and strokes. This application of thick materials stands off the surface to create depth, perspective, light, shadow and dimension. Skillful painters use the impasto technique to convey real texture and highlight certain areas of the painting.
